An Operating System is the fundamental software which manages a computer system. It handles how your hardware behaves, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, along with the prioritization of applications when multiple ones run concurrently. Each program that's installed on a computer functions by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS is possible through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the OS is what runs a web server as well as any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application for example a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Hosting
Our virtual private server packages feature three Linux distributions which you may choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being cost-free, the OSs are very stable and safe and the main reason to offer you all 3 of them is to ensure that you can run each app that you'd like, because different pieces of software could have different requirements regarding the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have created a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to handle your hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting
In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a wider choice for the system environment on the server as different apps may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure web hosting service. Based on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
