If you decide to transfer a domain name from one registrar company to another, you will need to pass through a few security procedures. One of them is getting a unique EPP authentication code from the present domain name registrar – provided that you are the domain registrant, since the code is sent to the owner's mailbox and nobody else can get it. You’ll need to provide this code to the new registrar company, or else they will not be able to start the domain name transfer process. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may include numbers or special characters such as dots or commas, which can be easily miswritten, so make sure you copy/paste the right code. As an additional security measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain may be reset regularly. Some domain name registrars call this code a domain password, an Auth key or a domain secret as well.
