If you'd like to point a domain address that you have to another domain address or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the site that you have created, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain renders it impossible to use email addresses.
CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux cloud packages is extremely simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of simple steps. You will find a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many options - if you set up a company site on our end, as an illustration, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a website using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than 3 clicks to set up this kind of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you're there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video within the CP on how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
